Freiburg (dpa) – In the opinion of coach Christian Streich, the atmosphere on the Betzenberg should be one of the biggest challenges for SC Freiburg in the DFB Cup game at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. “They want to create a real surprise and throw us out, every fan will take part in that,” said the coach of the Bundesliga soccer club two days before the first round game in the second division promoted on Sunday (3:31 p.m. / Sky). “We have to stay cool, but we mustn’t be hypothermic.”

In terms of personnel, things are looking good for Freiburg before the start of the competitive game. Except for the long-term injured offensive players Lucas Höler (metatarsal fracture) and Kevin Schade (abdominal muscle surgery), all players are ready for action. Benjamin Uphoff will travel as the second goalkeeper behind Mark Flekken. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be number two permanently, Streich explained. The ranking will only be discussed with the keepers in the coming week. As goalkeeper Noah Atubolu was injured recently, he is due to get match practice in the second team this weekend.

Last season, Freiburg reached the final of the DFB Cup for the first time and lost it to RB Leipzig on penalties.
