The ban will come into effect on September 1. Violation of the ban is subject to fines.
One Twitter user believes that this is the time when “we should copy Sweden’s example directly”, while another thinks that many people would be sad if that were the case. Another person has requested that electric scooters be prohibited from moving on the sidewalks here as well.
Dāvis Baumanis, manager of the service hotel of Riga Stradins University, believes that something like this could be introduced here as well.

The only difference is that it has been forbidden to ride a bicycle in Sweden for a long time, and this is also normal, because it is safe to ride a bicycle on bicycle paths, bicycle lanes and roadways there. While it is not really safe with us, because the infrastructure is not organized.

There is some kind of mixlis. It will be forbidden to ride on the sidewalk, but they will be subject to the same rules as on wheels, but in Sweden you can ride a bike on the sidewalk🤷♂️

It has long been forbidden to ride a bicycle on sidewalks in Sweden, so it is natural that scooters also have this restriction. pic.twitter.com/NlvSl6DenS
