During the next elections of the municipal youth council (CMJ), a structure intended more specifically for children will be set up as well as a citizen course.
Since its creation in 1996, the CMJ has evolved very little, training generations of young columérins in the practice of political life. During the last municipal council, their elders voted unanimously to create the children’s municipal council. This new authority intended for the youngest of 9 to 11 years old will be created, next January, during the elections of the next CMJ which now concerns the upper age group of 12 to 15 years old.
“We are going to develop the body by reorganizing the age groups, and by integrating it into a civic journey that will allow each young columérin to benefit from support for civic expression and the development of initiatives”, explains Caroline Vauchère, deputy mayor responsible for culture, youth and secularism. “The civic course would start from CP to CE2, with the idea of developing in children their curiosity about citizenship, and bringing out their desires for commitments within the CMJ in particular”.
Personalized support
A citizenship referent animator will act in each Alaé thanks to training and a course built and implemented by the professionals of the citizen participation center of the town hall.
“The idea of a civic journey would be to promote the spirit of responsibility and commitment of children while transmitting values of civic-mindedness and solidarity, especially during actions in their schools, outside and outside school”, adds the chosen one. “But also in Citizens’ Houses by highlighting them in a booklet of responsibilities that could follow them in their columérine life: Children’s Rights Week, Eco-School, Telethon, World Clean Up Day, CMJ”.
A vision of global actions must be carried out with the objective of retaining young people and involving them more in the life of the municipality.
