On a one-hectare plot, more than 800 trees will be planted next winter in the town of Landrais in Charente-Maritime. The initiative is put on the account of Baptiste Trény, founder of the company “Créateur de Forêt” to improve the biodiversity of the commune.
A new “biodiversity area” will see the light of day in Charente Maritimein the municipality of Landrais. Baptiste Trenyfounder of the company forest creator“, collected nearly 50,000 euros in less than six months for this first project in the department.
The latter will therefore be able to plant 834 trees of 36 different species, all spread over a one-hectare wasteland entrusted to it by the municipality of Landrais. A small village of 730 inhabitants. The objective: to protect the biodiversity of this municipality.
Biodiversity promoter
Baptiste Trény did not embark on a simple reforestation project. He calls himself a promoter of biodiversity.
Trees and forests are used to preserve biodiversity. Our creations are more forest projects. We build an afforestation project when the tree is useful for biodiversity”.
Indeed, the 38-year-old man says that the tree is not always useful in certain sectors, because the ecosystem does not necessarily lend itself to it. As part of the Landrais project, 834 trees of 36 different species will therefore be planted. And all species are local.
The ground is not very rich and quite stony. We will therefore plant trees and shrubs irregularly, voluntarily, in order to improve the ecosystem of this place”.
Protected for a decade
Ultimately, this natural forest will be protected for the next 99 years thanks to a real environmental obligation (ORE).
The OREs are a new legal tool “allowing landowners to create lasting environmental protection obligations on their land”, as stated on the website of the Ministry of Ecology.
34 companies and around 60 individuals financed the future plantations expected for next winter. Planting will take place between December and January.
And Baptiste Trény intends to rely on local nurserymen and will ensure the maintenance of this plot during the first five years. “It is our partner Nature GD located in Surgères who will help us maintain these plantations”.
A second project in Périgny
If Landrais is the first project that the Deux-Sévrien company is carrying out in Charente-Maritime, a new project will soon see the light of day. It will be located at Perigny behind the Léa Nature Biopôle. A second biodiversity zone of 1.4 hectares.
This project is identical to that of Landrais. The only difference is that it is fully funded by the Rotary Club of La Rochelle Aunis. The city of Périgny has therefore, like Landrais, decided to make available a municipal plot which will host the biodiversity project”.
39 different species will also be planted at the end of next winter.
