The German Volkswagen concern, which includes the Czech Škoda Auto or the Spanish Seat, is a world pioneer in shared platforms thanks to cooperation across models under different brands. The boss of VW Thomas Schaefer however, he still sees a number of reserves in the system, which the concern intends to catch up in the following years.

“In the past, we wasted too much time being busy with each other. But the competition is outside our concern, not within it,” he told Bloomberg, adding that in the future the automotive world will see more cohesive sister automakers. According to him, the cars will thus differ more in design, but under the hood, on the contrary, they will be more and more similar to each other.
–
A similar strategy was applied by VW, for example, to the Škoda Citigo, Seat Mii and Volkswagen Up! or for the Polo, Ibiza and Fabia models. The management of the concern sees great potential in deepening cooperation in the next generations of Škoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat sedans. In connection with this, car companies have already centralized production and moved it from Germany and the Czech Republic to one factory in Slovakia.
–
Volkswagen, Seat and Škoda models account for almost 80% of global sales for the VW Group, and greater cooperation is intended to make the entire development and production process more efficient by up to twenty percent.
–
The group intends to invest the collected money in the expensive development of electromobility in order to be more competitive against Tesla, Stellantis and Chinese manufacturers. An example is the joint project VW Trinity, within the framework of which the automaker wants to present several electric cars at once. The premiere should take place in 2026.
