Former Perak Executive Board member Paul Yong was sentenced to 13 years in prison and two lashes. Paul Yong was found guilty of rape a household assistant (ART) from Indonesia, three years ago.
The verdict was handed down by the High Court of Ipoh, Malaysia. The head of the panel of judges in this matter is Abdul Wahab Mohamed.
Paul Yong was found guilty. The judge considered that Paul Yong as an employer should protect his household members.

“As an employer, you must protect him, especially when he is from another country, and not act in your favor,” said judge Abdul, quoted by The Star, Wednesday (27/7/2022).
“The court considered the public interest of the case, and a lesson not only for the accused, but also for those who intend to commit similar crimes.”
Earlier in his 45-minute judgment, the judge said the court had found that the victim was trustworthy, honest and telling the truth, and that her statements were convincing.
“The court also found that the victim did not make up stories just to return to her home country. There was also an element of reflection from the defense witnesses,” said the judge.
Lawyer Paul Yong’s Response
Yong’s main legal adviser, Datuk Rajpal Singh during mitigation said that the defendant is married and has four children, and is the sole breadwinner of the family.
He said this was his client’s first offense, and he had no previous criminal record. Rajpal tells the court that they will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Salim Bashir, an adviser to another defendant, said his client was a politician and a member of the council for nine years.
