This Iconic MCU Villain Could Become Sam Wilson’s New Nemesis

Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con provided an opportunity to learn more about the title and release date of the next Captain America movie. We now know that the first adventures of Sam Wilson, as the new Captain America, will take place during la phase 5 du MCU.

A returning villain?

The details about Captain America 4 are few in number so far, although the MCU’s Phase 4 has laid the groundwork for the film. In Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson finally got over the reservations he had about becoming the next Captain America and agreed to inherit the shield from Steve Rogers. Captain America : New World Order should then pick up the thread of its story at the very place where it ended in the series.

As for what the story of Captain America 4 will imply, the newly revealed title seems to hint at a possible connection to a former big MCU villain. In the comics, “New World Order” is the name of an organization led by Red Skull. It appears for the first time in the pages ofIncredible Hulk #403 in the 90s. The goal of the organization is then to take control of the whole world. It took the combined efforts of the Hulk, Doc Samson, and the Dark Knight’s Avengers team to finally foil Red Skull’s evil plans at the time.

Sam Wilson’s New Enemy

Although this issue hardly involves any heroes who have appeared in the MCU thus far, the fact that the new Captain America movie shares the exact same name as Steve Rogers’ nemesis’ organization raises the possibility of him being involved. After being sent to Vormir, the villain is believed to have lost all evil intent. He’s not the person he was back then. Captain America : First Avenger. An event should therefore occur in order to push the character to found the New World Order organization.

Given that Red Skull isn’t dead, Ross Marquand could theoretically return to play the villain should Marvel consider him the best possible antagonist choice for Sam Wilson. Although the two characters don’t have a common background in the MCU, the fact that they are both related to Steve could create a connection between them. As in the comics, Red Skull might consider Sam Wilson unworthy of the title of Captain America. Defeating Steve Rogers’ fiercest adversary would then represent a sort of ultimate test for Sam Wilson, which would allow him to finally prove that he is worthy of replacing the hero in the MCU in the long term.

Captain America : New World Order is scheduled for May 3, 2024 in theaters. If you would like to learn a bit more about the filming of the production, please head over to this article.
