MADRID, 27 (EUROPA PRESS)

Microsoft obtained a net profit of 72,738 million dollars (71,527 million euros) at the end of its fiscal year, which ended last June, which represents the best annual result for the company and an increase of 18.7% in compared to the profits posted by the Redmond giant in the previous year, despite the drag on the dollar exchange rate in the last quarter.

Microsoft’s revenue for the fiscal year as a whole totaled a record 198,270 million dollars (194,969 million euros), 17.5% more than a year earlier, including a 17.5% growth in the area of productivity, which includes Office and LinkedIn sales, up to 63,364 million dollars (62,309 million euros).

In the case of Microsoft’s cloud business, annual turnover increased by 25.2%, to 75,251 million dollars (73,998 million euros), while the personal computing division, which includes Windows, Bing or the Xbox console , increased its sales by 10.3%, to 59,655 million dollars (58,662 million euros).

Between April and June, the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, Microsoft obtained a net profit of 16,740 million dollars (16,461 million euros), which implies an improvement of just 1.7% compared to its result in the same period of 2021, while its turnover increased by 12.4%, to 51,865 million dollars (51,001 million euros), failing in both cases its latest forecasts.

At the beginning of last June, Microsoft had revised down its revenue and profit forecasts for its last fiscal quarter as a result of the adverse impact of the exchange rate, anticipating a quarterly net profit of between 16,850 and 17,430 million dollars (16,569 and 17,140 million euros), while it expected to invoice between 51,940 and 52,740 million dollars (51,075 and 51,862 million euros).

Looking ahead to 2023, Microsoft’s chief financial officer, Amy Hood, indicated that the multinational is confident of achieving “double-digit growth in revenue and operating profit, both in constant currency and in US dollars.”

Also, the Microsoft CFO anticipated that operating margins in US dollars will be practically flat, due to the effect of the headwind related to the exchange rate.
