Egypt’s football championship will probably be remembered by many fans not for the beautiful game, but for the terrible acts of violence that resulted in the premature end of many people’s lives. The national tournament has experienced a jerky game schedule, and at times the future of the league was shrouded in fog – for almost two years, no match between the clubs took place, but for several seasons the wind whistled in the stands because spectators were not allowed in the stadium.
