New Laredo, Tam. One year after the start of the Cross-Border Vaccination Days against covid-19, 107,422 doses have been applied, donated by the Health Authority of Laredo, Texas, reported Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas.
Since July 2021, Nuevo Laredo became the first municipality in Mexico to start binational vaccination by negotiating with Dr. Víctor Treviño doses against covid for Neolaredenses.
“We have been doing these vaccination campaigns for a year and as a result of my being the municipal president, they intensified, and as long as there are citizens who want to be vaccinated, we will look for alternatives so that they can protect themselves against Covid,” said Canturosas.
He explained that it has not been easy, at first there were difficulties in the city to apply the vaccine against covid-19, but that was not an impediment, so that vaccination will continue. For this reason, the staff of the Health Directorate moved to the Colombia Bridge in order to start the vaccination days there.
He highlighted that in November Nuevo Laredo became the first city in Mexico to vaccinate children from 5 to 11 years of age against Covid-19. In principle, the minors belonged to the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRI) of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF), but later it was extended to all the children of this border.
The mayor pointed out that people from other cities have traveled to Nuevo Laredo with the intention of obtaining the doses.
“We do not limit any citizen who has approached the border to get vaccinated, we are all human beings and we want to be well, we cannot be selfish,” said Mayor Canturosas.
To provide greater agility and ease to citizens, the Mega Vaccination Day began in December, which lasted 10 days, in which children, youth and adults were transferred by bus to the neighboring city even if they did not have a visa.
In those 10 days, 11,700 people were vaccinated.
Since then, vaccination campaigns have been carried out in this way by transferring the citizen to Laredo, Texas, without the need for a visa and without having to register in advance.
Once again Nuevo Laredo made history because in June it began the application of vaccines against covid-19 to 6-month-old babies and children up to 4 years of age, in which more than 2,000 minors have been vaccinated.
On August 1, the Municipal Government will start a vaccination day again for those who are interested in applying the dose.
