Valentín Castellanos said goodbye to the New York City Football Club to start his first European experience, defending the shirt of Girona from Spain. The striker, wanted by River, was the top scorer in MLS last season.
At only 23 years old, Valentín Castellanos from Mendoza was dismissed as a “legend” of the New York City Club. “Taty” finished his youth training and debuted as a professional at the University of Chile, then was acquired by the City Group to wear the Montevideo City Torque and New York City jerseys.
In the MLS Castellanos was uncovered as a great scorer converting 58 goals in 133 games. He was the top scorer of the season in 2021 helping NYCFC to become champions of the tournament for the first time.
Those numbers caught the attention of River Plate, which during the last transfer market bet heavily on the hiring of Taty, although the negotiations did not come to fruition.
Having started a new season with many goals in the MLS (He leaves New York as the top scorer in the tournament) Castellanos ends up going on loan to Girona de la Liga, another team belonging to the group.
