After a successful performance in the “Open Men Bronze” tennis tournament, Elias Werner from Switzerland is eliminated in the semi-finals. In addition to experienced athletes, young athletes also take part in the Makkabiah. For example, the only 15-year-old tennis player Sharon Assaraf.

Swiss tennis player Elias Werner faced his Swedish competitor Simon Freund in the fifth knockout game. In a hard-fought game in Jerusalem, Werner lost in two sets 6-4 and 7-5. The defeat also means the end of a very successful tournament for him, because the Swiss was convincing in almost all games – whether alone or in doubles with Rodrigo Plotzky Braunstein. But that also put him under a lot of sporting stress, because Werner often played two games on the same day.
Young athletes also travel to Israel for Switzerland to the Makkabiah. Take Oren Prihed, for example, who won a bronze medal in rock climbing at the age of 17. In tennis, Sharon Assaraf, who was only 15, played several games for Switzerland. She herself said after the last game, which she lost, that she was not satisfied with her performance because she was very nervous. But nobody will blame her for the defeat, because the young Swiss from Geneva is taking part in the tournament for the first time – certainly not for the last time.
The Makkabi Switzerland association published the medal table of the Swiss delegation in the meantime on Instagram. And this one is something to be proud of: a gold medal (Tamas Terner) and five bronze medals. Everyone is curious to see whether the collection will expand in the final days of the tournament.
