The slow disappearance of the fixed telephone continues in New York. Workers removed the last street phone box on Monday, located on a street near Times Square. These booths were once present on almost every street corner in the city, before the appearance of cell phones.
Other phone booths still exist, especially in public transport stations and ferry terminals, as well as in some neighborhood stores.
According to the city, the phone booth will be on display at the Museum of the City of New York, as part of an exhibit that will focus on life before the digital age.
