This disease is transmitted from animals to humans. It can be transmitted by contact with blood, body fluids or skin or mucosal lesions of infected animals.
Because the source of transmission is from animals, there are only a few cases monkey pox transmitted from human to human.
Even if there is, transmission can occur through contact with infected respiratory tract secretions, wounds on the patient’s skin, or objects that have been contaminated with the patient’s body fluids.
WHO writes that transmission to humans is very limited. Transmission through respiratory fluid particles requires long-term interface contact so the disease is usually only transmitted to family members.
Incubation period or interval from infection to onset of symptoms monkey pox usually 6-16 days, but can range from 5-21 days. Symptoms include fever, severe headache, lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), back pain, muscle aches and weakness.
