The United States has highlighted the monkeypox outbreak as the start of a new sexually transmitted disease (STD). Some experts are worried that monkeypox will spread more widely so that it can become a ‘rooted’ STD like gonorrhea, herpes, and HIV.
Until now, no one is really sure about the effectiveness of testing and vaccines can stop the spread of monkeypox outbreaks. Health officials have not been able to determine the speed of transmission of the virus. It is also uncertain how many people are infected but transmit monkeypox without realizing it.
But the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr Rochelle Walensky, said the government’s response to the spread of monkeypox was getting stronger every day and the supply of the vaccine would continue to increase.

“I think we still have a chance to contain this (monkeypox outbreak),” Walensky told The Associated Press, quoted from the New York Post, Sunday (24/7/2022).
It is known, monkeypox is an endemic disease in some parts of Africa. Usually, patients become infected through the bite of a rodent or small animal. However, the disease previously did not spread easily between individuals.
But this year, more than 15,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in countries that have historically never lived with the disease. In the US and Europe, the majority of monkeypox cases occur in men who have sex with other men. Although the CDC emphasizes, anyone can catch the monkeypox virus regardless of their sexual orientation.
Monkeypox is mainly transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, but can also be transmitted by touching objects infected with the monkeypox virus. Symptoms include fever, body aches, chills, fatigue, and lumps in the body.
