The Perseverance rover has found strange objects on Mars several times.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Rover Perseverance belonging to the American Space Agency (NASA) found a mysterious object similar to a confusing rope. The object lies in uncharted territory by NASA.
Reporting from BGR, Sunday (7/24/2022) NASA thinks the rope may have come from the Perseverance landing. Perseverance finds a mysterious rope in an unexplored part of Jezero Crater.
The strap is visible in the image taken by the rover’s front left hazard avoidance camera. This camera helps Perseverance navigate the Martian landscape.
NASA can’t pinpoint exactly what the mysterious rope found on Mars is. However, the Perseverance team thought maybe it was just debris from the rover’s landing.
Perseverance uses rocket-powered jetpack technology to safely land on Mars. As a result, there was no harmful impact when the team took the rover to Jezero Crater.
The mysterious rope was discovered by Perseverance. What made it so interesting was that Perseverance had never been in that part of the crater before. NASA thinks that the wind can carry the rope to its current location. Because, the object was lost when Perseverance returned to the location four days later.
Finding trash on Mars
Throughout his time on the surface of Mars, Perseverance has made a number of discoveries. But the rover has found other trash besides this mysterious rope on Mars. The Perseverance found a bright piece of tinfoil in mid-June.
According to NASA, the foil is likely leftover from a thermal blanket that helps control the rover’s temperature while in flight.
