The Hotel Pennsylvania caught fire in New York City on Monday (local time). As US media reported unanimously, smoke rose from the historic building in the Manhattan borough.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. on the second floor, it said. Around 80 emergency services were deployed. The fire in the 28-story building was reportedly brought under control after about 45 minutes. There were no injuries.

Demolition work had already begun at the hotel. According to the US media, guests were therefore not in the hotel.
