THE BALL – Evelise Veiga eliminated in the long jump (Athletics)

The Portuguese athlete Evelyse Veiga failed to qualify this Saturday for the final of the long jump event at the World Championships in Athletics, taking place in Eugene, in the US state of Oregon.

Evelise jumped 6.54 meters and was eighth (among ten competitors) in Group A of qualifying, 21 centimeters below the 6.75 meters defined as the minimum for qualifying for the final of the competition, which takes place, with 12 qualified, at dawn Monday, 25th of the current month (01.50 hours).

The North American Quanesha Burks achieved, for now, the best mark among the 12 finalists – 11 for reaching the required distance, and the British Ugen Lorraine still caught by mark (jumped 6.68 meters) – of the long jump test.

On Saturday night and Sunday morning, all eyes in Portugal in the final of the men’s triple jump contest, for which the Olympic champion, Pedro Pablo Pichardo, starts with the best score and with the greatest chances of giving the team of quins the first medal in the worlds. The start is scheduled for 2 am.
