Most love hunters who have been on a few dates over the years can boast the occasional intriguing “hunting story” where things didn’t go quite as planned.
But it will do well to surpass a certain gentleman in the American state of Michigan. Because when he chose to ditch a date he had arranged, the scorned woman hit him with a juicy, multi-digit lawsuit.
Should have swiped left
USA Today reports that the lawsuit was filed in the District Court of Genesee County in September 2020.
According to the lawsuit, the incident caused great emotional distress to the woman as it happened on her late mother’s birthday.
For pain and heartache, the woman demanded nothing less than 10,000 dollars (closer to 100,000 kroner).
The nine-minute court session was held via Zoom, and the temperature was going to be high. But not between the two you might have imagined.
According to USA Today, which has seen the relevant video, the judge opened by informing the woman that her lawsuit should have been brought before the district court.

The judge then turned to the defendant and asked him if he intended to represent himself in the trial.
– To be honest with you, sir, I thought this was going to be dropped, he answered the judge.
– We had one date – one date – and nothing else after that, and now I’m being sued for $10,000. I don’t think this is going to last very long and I think this is a waste of your time, he continued.
The recording shows that the defendant wisely chose to keep his mouth shut. Eventually he lowered his head and let his palm slide over his forehead while the judge and the woman “discussed”.
In the end, the woman broke through and said she would send her lawsuit to the district court, as the judge had informed at the very start of the court hearing.

The judge dismissed the case, and it was transferred to the district court, court records show.
The woman did not want to make any official comment. USA Today writes that the woman has previously filed at least a dozen different lawsuits since 2000.
Among other things, she sued the police in Flint in Michigan for 300 million dollars. The woman claimed she had been assaulted and harassed by several police officers. The case was eventually dismissed by a judge.
