In Lille, the Place des Reignaux becomes pedestrianized

Since this Thursday, there is no longer any question of driving or parking in the square, located between the streets of Ponts de Comines and du Priez, on the side of the Lille-Flandres station. The town hall has installed bollards to block access, in order to begin its redevelopment project… which is still a tad vague.

It’s a bit of a surprise of the day. This Thursday, the town hall placed bollards on both sides of Place des Reignaux, near the station. “It was done in a bit of a rushe, admits Franck Hanoh, the deputy mayor, in charge of the Lille-Centre district. It was in our plans to transform the Place des Reignaux with the local residents and shopkeepers who take part in my workshop. I just took an opportunity to speed things up“.

As a result, cars can no longer pass or park in the square, now intended to be used by pedestrians only. “This development is temporary, but the objective is for the square to be permanently pedestrianized.“, explains Franck Hanoh. Even if no reconfiguration plan for the square is clearly laid down… And we don’t know either what the square will officially host.

The idea is that it becomes a place of entertainment. We think about what we are going to do, but we imagine concerts, flea markets and other eventsoffers the chosen one. It will be decided with the ten residents and shopkeepers of the workshop.” And some have already taken the opportunity to apply for the installation of terraces. “We want to create and test new uses, so that local residents can appropriate the public space.c”, ends the one who wanted at first “calm the place“.
