China steps up efforts to stabilize employment – Xinhua English.news.cn

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) — China is steadily carrying out measures to help enterprises overcome difficulties and stabilize employment this year, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Two sets of pro-employment policies have been implemented in the first half of this year, Gui Zhen, an official with the ministry, said Friday.

In the first six months, 5.84 million enterprises nationwide that did not cut or made minimal staff cuts received 33.1 billion yuan (about 4.9 billion U.S. dollars) unemployment insurance reimbursement, representing one of the country’s efforts to maintain job stability and stimulate job creation.

In order to ease the pressure on market entities, the ministry has reduced and postponed unemployment insurance premiums for industries and enterprises facing difficulties.

During this period, some 71.5 billion yuan in unemployment insurance premiums were cut for companies most affected by the epidemic, Gui said.

The country also paid out 40.2 billion yuan in insurance benefits to 6.2 million unemployed workers in the first half as China expands policies to broaden unemployment insurance coverage, according to the ministry. End
