Oliver Blume, who has been the boss of sports car brand Porsche since 2015, will take over the management of parent company Volkswagen Group. In September, he will succeed Herbert Diess, who has been head of the German car group since 2018.
Blume is 54 years old. He previously worked for the car brands Audi, SEAT and Volkswagen.
It is not immediately clear why the baton is being passed on. The decision about the departure of 63-year-old Diess would have been taken with “mutual consent”.
Herbert Diess was CEO of the Volkswagen brand before he rose to the position of chief executive officer at the Volkswagen Group. Before that, he worked at rival BMW. Diess was discredited last December when he got into trouble with the company’s influential employee representation. Then, after negotiations, it was decided to keep the CEO.
It is not the intention for Blume to give up his role at Porsche to become top boss of the Volkswagen Group. Blume will therefore have a double role in the near future.
This dual role is not a problem, because Porsche has been part of the Volkswagen Group for ten years, which also includes Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley, for example.
