The best results in the second practice rounds of the French Grand Prix were achieved by Ferrari pilots. Carlos Sainz was the fastest this time, but Charles Leclair was behind him.
In the second practice session at Paul Ricard, Sainz set a best time of 1 minute 32.527 seconds, but he will reportedly receive a ten-place grid penalty for the race. Leclair was 0.101 seconds slower and both Ferrari drivers completed 21 laps.
Behind them was the world championship overall leader, Red Bull pilot Max Verstappen, who was more than half a second slower. The first five were completed by Mercedes representatives George Russell and Louis Hamilton.
Sainz missed the first third of practice because the floor of his car was changed. Several pilots made mistakes in the meantime. The biggest one was for Mick Schumacher, who slipped before the “Le Beausset” corner, but managed to avoid the barrier. In the same corner, Russell hit the curb hard, but she managed not to damage the floor of the car. Kevin Magnussen went off the track in the second corner and was concerned that the curb may have caused damage.
