USA: Republican gubernatorial candidate for New York attacked
At the event in upstate New York, a man attempted to stab Republican Lee Zeldin. Zeldin was not seriously injured, and the 43-year-old attacker was arrested. This was stationed in 2009 for the US forces in Iraq. A video on Twitter shows the attack.

New York.The Republican candidate for the governorship of New York state was attacked at an event in Rochester. The attacker reportedly attempted to stab Lee Zeldin. However, the congressman escaped without serious injuries. “I’m fine,” Zeldin said in a statement. “Luckily, I was able to grab his wrist and hold him off for a few moments until others intervened.”

Zeldin’s campaign team said the 43-year-old attacker had been arrested and Zeldin continued his speech. The attacker was later charged with attempted assault. He was in Iraq in 2009 as a laboratory technician for the US Army. Nothing was initially known about his motive.
The attacker climbed onto the low stage where Zeldin, flanked by hay bales and US flags, addressed dozens of people. A video posted to Twitter showed Zeldin and the attacker falling to the ground while others tried to intervene.
