The Reels and Video tab will be merged
As part of a test a few weeks ago, every video post on Instagram was published as a reel. The platform then confirmed that there should only be one video format on the platform in the future: Reels. Mosseri now explains that all videos that are less than 15 minutes in length are posted as a reel. As part of this, the platform is merging the Reels tab with the Videos tab in the profile.

New remix options
Instagram’s Remix feature allows for side-by-side reactions in reels – similar to the Duet feature on TikTok. Now Instagram boss Mosseri has announced some updates for the function. So users can create a remix not only from videos, but also from any public photos. If you don’t want your own photos to be used for the remix videos, you have to turn off sharing in the settings.
Many users should also be happy about the possibility of being able to show their reaction video not only next to the original and thus at the same time, but also after it. The platform is also releasing a number of new formats for the remix function, including green screen and picture-in-picture.

Reels Templates are finally here
For several months, the platform has been working on a template function for reels, which users can use to create simple videos using templates. Now the feature finally seems to be in the starting blocks. Mosseri explained:
[…] You can quickly and easily make a reel that’s yours with your content, using a format or a structure that someone else might have done that maybe inspires you or speaks to you.
In addition, with the new dual-camera function, users will be able to record content and their own reactions at the same time by using both the front and rear cameras – a function that the trending app BeReal has as a signature feature.
