Roy Suryo Becomes Suspect of Stupa Meme Case Similar to Jokowi

Former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo was named a suspect in the case of uploading a Borobudur Temple stupa meme that was edited like President Joko Widodo.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Endra Zulpan said that Roy was being investigated today as a suspect.

“Yes, today Roy Suryo is being investigated as a suspect,” said Zulpan when contacted, Friday (22/7).

For information, Roy Suryo was reported by two different people because he also uploaded the stupa meme that was edited like Jokowi on his Twitter account.

The first report was made by a Buddhist representative named Kurniawan Santoso to Polda Metro Jaya and registered with number LP/B/3042/VI/2022/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, dated June 20, 2022.

Then a second report was made by Kevin Wu to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, but was later transferred to the Polda Metro Jaya. Registered report with number LP/B/0293/VI/2022/SPKT/BARESKRIM dated June 20, 2022.

In the two reports, Roy was reported to be related to Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) and or Article 156A of the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, Roy through his attorney also made a police report related to the upload. He reported three social media accounts suspected of being the first uploaders of the meme.

This report is registered with the number LP/B/2970/VI/2022/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, dated June 16, 2022. Roy reports Article 28 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE.

Roy has been examined twice as a reporting witness regarding this report. Roy also claimed to have submitted the identity of the first uploader to investigators.
