The dream of a return to the semi-finals of a European Championship is close for Austria’s footballers on Thursday, but it has burst. The selection of team manager Irene Fuhrmann had to admit defeat in the quarter-finals of the EM 2022 in Brentford Germany with 0:2 (0:1). Lina Magull scored the 1:0 for the eight-time European champions in the 25th minute, Alexandra Popp made it 2:0 in the final minute.
Germany did not concede a goal in their fourth game in England and now meets the winners of the duel between France and the defending champions from the Netherlands (Saturday, 9 p.m., live on ORF1). The fact that the German vest remained white was also due to the goal cage, because Marina Georgieva, Barbara Dunst and Sarah Puntigam only hit the post and the crossbar. On the other side, Giulia Gwinn was unlucky just after the restart and Klara Bühl in the finish with shots from the pole.
