2014 – In exceptional cases, pain patients are allowed to cultivate the illegal drug cannabis privately. The Cologne administrative court allows cultivation for therapeutic purposes.

2012 – Bradley Wiggins becomes the first Briton to win the Tour de France in 109 years.
2005 – Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva becomes the first woman to jump five meters at the London Track and Field Grand Prix.
1997 – A military court in Rome convicted the former SS leaders Erich Priebke (83) and Karl Hass (85). Because of her participation in the shooting of 335 hostages in the Ardeatine caves near Rome on March 24, 1944, the court sentenced her to 15 years or ten years and eight months in prison. However, both are released from ten years imprisonment. On March 7, 1998, Priebke and Hass were sentenced to life imprisonment in an appeal. This judgment is confirmed on November 16, 1998 by the Court of Cassation in Rome.
1952 – Poland’s Stalinist constitution comes into effect. It will only be partially repealed in 1989 and 1992 and completely in 1997.
1942 – The German occupiers begin deporting Polish Jews from the Warsaw ghetto to the Treblinka concentration camp.
