The police had evacuated and cordoned off a larger area, due to a gas hazard linked to gas cylinders in the burning building.
At 23.16 the police reported that the fire service had the fire under control and that there was no longer any danger of spreading.
– Extinguishing is still ongoing, but the fire service says they have control and have brought down the heat. There should be less danger of spreading, said operations manager Per Solberg in the Innlandet police district.
Later, the evacuees were told that they could return home.
Gas cylinder exploded
Fire, police and ambulance moved out. They received assistance from the municipality to evacuate residents into the community centre. A total of 18 homes were evacuated.
Large flames rose from the building, and witnesses told NRK that they had heard several bangs after the fire broke out.
– The evacuation is due to gas cylinders in the commercial building. One has exploded, but there should be one more in the building, said operations manager Solberg.
The area around the nursery was cordoned off with a safety margin of 300 metres.
The police did not fear that there would be people inside the building. It was at 10.19pm that the police received a report of the fire.
