Apart from Omicron BA.4 and BA.5, now the world is excited about the appearance of the new Omicron subvariant BA.2.75 ‘Centaurus’. Given that one of the symptoms of Omicron can be body aches, in which part of the body does the pain occur?
Referring to the ZOE COVID study application, back pain is one of the 20 symptoms most complained by Omicron variant COVID-19 patients. Prof Tim Spector, head of the study’s application, explained that about one in five people with infection with the Omicron variant experience back pain.
Until now, there is still no more detailed explanation regarding the cause of many Omicron patients experiencing back pain. However, in some cases, the pain or tenderness can weaken the patient and limit mobility.

“The data from South Africa that first identified (the Omicron variant) shows that Omicron patients often experience two sets of symptoms (i.e.) first a sore throat, nasal congestion, cough, then muscle pain, especially lower back pain,” said experts at VaccinesWork, quoted from Times of India, Thursday (21/7/2022).
“This back pain is described by some patients as intense menstrual cramps, kidney stones or muscle spasms.”
However, not all back pain is caused by COVID-19. Other symptoms to watch out for include sore throat, cough, fever, sneezing, fatigue, and respiratory symptoms.
