Sarcelles: an investigation opened after the fire that ravaged a warehouse

The fire that ravaged a warehouse in Sarcelles was brought under control overnight from Monday to Tuesday, around 4 a.m., then completely extinguished in the early morning. This Tuesday, at the end of the morning, it was the turn of the technical and scientific police investigators to enter the devastated industrial site.

The challenge of the legal expertise which starts in the rubble: to determine the accidental or criminal origin of this pallet fire which has spread to an entire warehouse. An origin which is at this stage undetermined. The entrance to the site where more than one pallet escaped the fire is prohibited by the police.

The fire spread to the buildings

The alert was given shortly before 1:30 am, on the night of Monday to Tuesday. A fire broke out in this company that buys and sells pallets, located in premises on rue de l’Escouvrier, in the business area. The pallets, stored on an area of ​​500 m2, outdoors, on the land bordering rue des Bauves, caught fire. The disaster then spread to the buildings located next door, housing several businesses.

Firefighters were dispatched in large numbers to try to stem the fire. No less than 83 firefighters were mobilized as well as 17 machines. They deployed 7 fire hoses, including 3 gun hoses placed on elevating devices to tackle the fire and save as much of the warehouse as possible.

Four employees on technical unemployment

According to an initial assessment, approximately 500 m2 of building were destroyed by the fire, which however caused no casualties. According to the departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) 95, the disaster put four people on technical unemployment, including employees of the company Ceramico, a company selling tiles, ceramics and sanitary ware. “Luckily we have a second store in the area which remains open. This one is closed until further notice, ”says a manager of the company, which also manages AP Motors, which sells premium used vehicles.

The showroom of this one was very affected by the fire. “We are not allowed to go inside to see the damage to our vehicles,” says the manager on the spot. From what we could see, everything was degraded inside. I’m afraid the building is dead. There is a risk of staying below. “A Mercedes, a Maserati and a 2CV are notably parked inside and it seems damaged by fire.

The adjoining industrial buildings in the business area were also affected by the fire. In the parking lot of a company, a truck and a Volvo V60 were damaged by the fire and the release of heat. The fire spread to the outskirts of another neighboring company but did not affect the building.
