When the cat Ninja (3) came home, the owner Thea Marie Thon (23) started to cry. She later reported the relationship.

Thon, who lives in Sarpsborg, was awake to feed his daughter, when the cat Ninja came home at 03.30 on Monday night.
– I saw the cat go into the kitchen, but I didn’t recognize her because she was so “thin”. I went after her and saw that she was soaking wet. I weighed my roommate and we saw that she was soaked in frying oil – the whole apartment smelled really bad.
Thon says that she started to cry when she realized what had happened.
– My heart really hurt, but it quickly turned into me becoming very angry – who could do such a thing?

I suspect someone did it on purpose
Furthermore, Thon and his roommate Pål Eriksen (27) took the cat into the shower, but they did not succeed in washing off the oil.
– We called the animal hospital and left quite quickly. There she was under surveillance overnight, because she was freezing cold and could not keep warm. She was shaved, because they couldn’t wash off the oil.
–The cat was so full of oil that it had left tracks on the asphalt. After being at the animal hospital, Eriksen followed the oil trail, which led to a can filled with frying oil.
– I suspect that someone has put her in, that is most likely. There was at least 70 liters of oil in the can, so if she had fallen into it she would not have got out on her own, says Thon.

She adds that if someone helped Ninja out of the can, she thinks it is very strange that that person has not called animal protection or others to report it.
Collected money
Thon says that she went to the police on Monday morning to report the relationship.
– They said “it shouldn’t be like this” and that I was going to be contacted. But there is little chance that anything will be done – there is little evidence.
Thon says that the veterinary bill came to NOK 6,000.
– We do not have insurance on the cat. As new parents, it is difficult to pay such an expensive vet bill. Fortunately, we did not have to euthanize the cat.
Thon started a Spleis campaign to collect money to cover the bill. In four hours they had received NOK 10,000!
– People are unique. I started crying then too.
She says that they have not decided whether they will donate the money left over after the bill is covered.
– We have bought a climbing frame for the cat, because it has to be inside now, and it is boring its ass.
NRK was in contact with the daily manager of the fast food restaurant, who says that he has been in contact with Sarpsborg municipality and explained what kind of routines they have for storing cooking oil.
– It may be that someone who has passed by has done it. But no child or animal can open it. Then some adults must have done it, says the daily manager to NRK.
