Lorraine is a land of unusual records. In 1991, Nancy district firefighters have ridden the biggest bike in the world. At the head of the column, Captain Gilbert Baudon, behind him a crazy team made up of 26 saddles and as many firefighters. It is with their 52 pedals, muscle and sweat that the fire soldiers of the agglomeration of Nancy towed their machine over more than six kilometres. It took them a bit of courage to walk their mount, which weighed more than 300 kg. Departing from the city center, and after a few good pedal strokes, the team arrived as far as Essey-lès-Nancy. The epic was complicated by a major incident, the breakage of the bicycle chain. After an hour and a half of effort, the sappers have won their bet. By the way, they broke the world record. Since then, the brilliant idea has been emulated and the new record for the longest bicycle in the world comes to us from Maarheeze, in the Netherlands. The machine, equipped with only two wheels, measured more than 35 meters. It is certain, the Nancy firefighters have given ideas to all those who have a small bike in mind.
