Latvian basketball player Dairis Bertāns will also play in the Spanish Premier League (ACB) team Sevilla “Real Betis” in the next season, the club announced on Wednesday. As the basketball player’s agent Artūrs Kalnītis writes on Twitter, the agreement is concluded for two seasons with a player option in the second year.

32-year-old Bertans joined the Sevilla club last year, signing a contract for one season. The Latvian basketball player played in 34 ACB games, where he averaged 9.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 25 minutes. The Sevilla team was on the verge of relegation for a long time, but with a big role of Bertan and Andrzej Pasechnik in the victories, they managed to end the season in 13th place.
Before going to Spain, the attacking defender Bertans played for two years in the Russian team “Khimki” of the Moscow region, whose ranks were replenished in the summer of 2019, when the contract with him was terminated by the New Orleans “Pelicans” team of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Bertans was on the court in 12 NBA games, playing almost 14 minutes on average, but he failed to stand out with his results.
Before that, Bertans spent one and a half seasons in the Italian Serie A club “AX Armani Exchange Olimpia” in Milan. Before joining the Milan team, Bertans spent one year in the ranks of the Turkish club Istanbul “Darişşafak”, and before that he spent three seasons in the ACB team Bilbao “Dominion”. The Latvian joined the Bilbao team in 2013, coming from the “VEF Rīga” unit, in which he became the Latvian champion three times. Before that, however, he won his first national championship title in 2009 in the ranks of the “Ventspils” club. During his career, the basketball player also represented “Valmieru”, ASK/”Juniors” and “Rīgas ASK”.
In 2012 and 2014, Bertāns was recognized as Latvia’s best basketball player of the year. In the adult national team, the captain of the Latvian national team played in 123 matches, where he scored an average of 9.6 points, won 2.3 rebounds and gave 2.7 assists.
Kristaps Porzingis and Rinald Mālmanis also played in the Sevilla club.
