US imperial manners can play a cruel joke on them, as the Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post reacted to the claims that the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at the G20 meeting about China because of the “support” of Russia.
The publication draws a parallel between today’s United States and “the equally power-hungry Roman Empire.” In particular, the article argues, Blinken is guided by the erroneous belief that he is the secretary of state of the whole world, and not just the United States.
“Today, Blinken demands that Beijing stop supporting the Russian President Vladimir Putinbecause otherwise he will incur the wrath of Washington, the Rome of our time.” — writes the South China Morning Post.
The publication notes that the hostility of the United States to China is not at all some bad deeds that Beijing has done or is doing. It is rather due to the success and stability of China’s position on the world stage, as well as its growing influence.
“Washington’s empire is also built on greed and the lust for power. Democracy and the human rights it claims to protect are just a colorful curtain behind which hides a ferocious hegemon.” sums up the South China Morning Post.
Earlier, the US State Department said that China would pay dearly if it helped Russia circumvent sanctions. According to a State Department spokesman Ned PriceThe United States, along with dozens of allies, will exact a high price from China if it supplies Russia with weapons or helps to circumvent sanctions. He stressed that the Americans are not yet observing such actions, but are closely monitoring compliance with the sanctions regime.
US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haynes stated that Beijing is allegedly helping Moscow in various ways to counter the sanctions imposed in connection with the special operation. “Sometimes it’s more obvious, and sometimes it’s less obvious,” she says.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly emphasized that the attempts of the American authorities to “punish” China for cooperation with Russia are doomed to failure, and the partnership between the two countries is successfully tested for strength.
