The Golden Foot, a prize that recognizes the best players over 29 years of age, already knows its 50 final candidates to win the prize with important absences and striking names after the 2022 season.
Among the latest candidates, the favorite is undoubtedly Karim Benzema. The Frenchman was the best player in the Champions League and La Liga’s top scorer in Real Madrid’s double, but his teammate Thibaut Courtois, key in the Champions League final, is hot on his heels in the race for the prize .
Among the questionable presences is Gareth Bale, a striker who has just signed for Los Angeles FC and who barely had a role last season at Real Madrid, as well as Marcelo, another who was included in the final list.
Although more striking are the absences of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United’s scorer with more than 30 goals, and Luka Modric, key in Real Madrid’s titles, in the list of 50. Both have already won the award before, but now they will not be considered despite its good seasons.
