Diego Calai, Sporting’s goalkeeper, celebrated his 18th birthday yesterday, as part of the training camp in Lagos, and was congratulated by his colleagues and by his father, Diego, a former V. Setúbal goalkeeper who, on social media, recalled a difficult time :
“18 years ago, I received the worst news a parent could have. We were told that, due to premature birth, our son would only live a few hours. In an epic battle, against all statistics, where the most obvious result would be death, he decided that he would not give in, and as a true warrior, he gave us the most valuable of lessons: never give up. My son, congratulations once again and thank you very much for everything you taught us, being a huge source of inspiration for everyone.”
