Russia Orders Troops to Target Western Weapons

MOSCOW – Russia ordered his troops to target weapons supplied by Western countries in his attacks on Ukraine . This was stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“Army General Sergei Shoigu, noting the strengthening of the strike capabilities of the group, instructed commanders to prioritize the destruction of long-range missiles and artillery of the enemy with high-precision weapons,” the Russian Defense Ministry said, according to Ukraine’s Interfax, as quoted by the Russian Defense Ministry. The HillTuesday (19/7/2022).

Shoigu gave new instructions to the Russian Vostok battalion, which is currently fighting in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said targeting these Western-supplied missile systems would help protect Russian troops residing in eastern Ukraine from being fired upon.

Shoigu’s order follows an $820 million arms package approved by the Pentagon for Ukraine earlier this month.

The United States has sent several M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine, which Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has called a “game changer,” and plans to send four more.

“Russian forces have been in control of eastern Ukraine for the past few months, but the new weapons systems have allowed the Ukrainian army to strike back,” Reznikov said.

The UK, Germany and Norway each recently delivered the M270 multi-launch rocket system to Ukraine.
