Latvia says Ukraine’s interests and security when talking about grain export

“In connection with international efforts to restore Ukrainian grain exports, Ukraine’s interests and security considerations must be taken into account, Russia must compensate Ukraine for all losses caused by its aggression, including responsibility for the destruction of Ukrainian grain. Ukraine’s economy,” Rynkovsky said.

The President also emphasized the need for coordinated communication and active political dialogue with the international community in order to maintain a united position against Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. According to him, the EU should support the countries most affected by the Russian-organized food crisis by providing them with direct food aid, thus expressing solidarity and ensuring that these countries support the EU’s position against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, it will contribute to the reduction of potential migration flows to the European Union.

The minister said that the EU should create a legal framework to confiscate and transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine as part of recovery measures. Rinkovsky expressed his support for the reconstruction and further reforms in Ukraine, which should begin immediately, especially considering that the new school year and the winter period are ahead.

Rinkovičs emphasized that work should be done on the preparation of the seventh package of EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to implement the existing sanctions and work to eliminate the gaps in them, he believes.

“We must continue to provide Ukraine with all necessary support, especially in the form of military aid and through the European Peace Fund. We support the approval of the fifth part of military aid to the armed forces of Ukraine,” added the chief diplomat of Latvia. .

During the meeting, the Council held a discussion on digital diplomacy, after which Council conclusions on EU digital diplomacy were adopted. To this end, Edgars Rinkēvičs stated, among other things, that the European Union should provide support for the protection of Ukraine’s digital infrastructure and the provision of public access to the Internet in the territories occupied by Russia.
