The appearance of new variants of the coronavirus has led to the symptoms of the disease change throughout the development of the pandemic. This is confirmed by scientists and different studies that have been developed since the arrival of Covid-19 in our lives.
First it was Alpha (lineages B1.1.7 and Q), then came Delta, which prevailed in many world cases, until the arrival of Omicron multiplied the infections. Currently, BA.5 is the variant that appears in most cases around the worldresponsible for the seventh wave and which has increased contagion exponentially.
On the other hand, Centaurus (BA.2.75) It was detected in India and other countries and little by little it spreads to the rest of the world, which has led the WHO to classify it as a “variant of concern” as it produces greater contagiousness.
All of them have had different symptoms that have varied over time: some have become more present with the new variant and others have become lighter with the arrival of Omicron, among other aspects. This has been discussed in the latest report prepared in the United Kingdom by scientists from King’s College London, the country’s health system (NHS) and data from the Zoe Covid application.
How have the symptoms changed with the new variants?
The study, carried out in a 17,500 people who tested positive for coronavirusconcludes that among the main current symptoms of Covid are sore throat and headache, as well as cough and runny nose.
Other symptoms like fever or loss of smell and taste were quite common months ago, although they have become less common with the new variants. In addition, the study ensures that fatigue and muscle pain, among others, are more common over time.
According to the data in the report, these are the 20 main symptoms of Covid at present, in order of frequency in the cases observed:
- Sore throat – occurs in 58% of those affected
