As part of the 60th anniversary of the Jeune Montagne cooperative, the record was broken this Sunday, July 17 in Laguiole thanks to the illustrious Jean Miquel with the spatula.
30 kg of aligot in the pot heated to 60°, such is the magic potion to beat the world record for the longest thread of aligot. The lift to reach and beat the previous homologated record of 5.80 m was installed in the privileged multipurpose hall outside to prevent the wire from breaking in the breeze…
Bernard, Lauriane, Franck, the whole fine team is there to prepare, turn and then stretch the wooden spatula to the big arms of the essential Jean-Louis Miquel. A first attempt at 5.20m quickly raised hopes of victory. Then, the attempts follow one another without success at the end of the wooden spoon… A riser which rises too quickly, an even stronger heat than outside causing another record to be broken, that of the heat on the Aubrac, and doubt sets in. Franck Bourrel announces the last attempt. Could this finally be the right one? No. The thread breaks again. The public begins to leave to follow the milking of the cows.
Directed by Jean Miquel, 88 years old
But one of the deans of the cooperative, Jean Miquel, aged 88, takes control. He settles down on the elevator, spatula in hand. The wire rises, rises and when it reaches 5m, “Jeannot” decides to lift the spatula above his head, to reach 6m. Everest is reached on Aubrac. It is an outburst in the public who no longer believed in it. It always takes a dose of madness to succeed. The unexpected that brings a story to memory. Jeannot did. A Miquel always hides another in Laguiole.
And Jeannot confides the recipe for his success, at the first stroke of the spatula: “You have to do what everyone knows how to do. You have to shake the spatula at some point.” Tip: shake the spatula to raise the aligot again. How we give a boost. An energy. The record is broken. He remains in Laguiole. After the record for the longest steak in the world in 2009, everything is in Laguiole. Meat like aligot served on the platter, bon appetit! And long life to Jeune Montagne, whose organization with small onions delighted the public who came in large numbers all weekend despite the heat wave.
