Following the bitter defeat of Valérie Pécresse in the presidential election, most party figures were campaigning for Laurent Wauquiez to take matters into his own hands to rebuild and build his candidacy for 2027.
Except that the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region announced this Sunday evening that he did not want the job.
An announcement that has cooled the right a little. Starting with Jérémie Bréaud, LR mayor of Bron and regional councilor, inevitably mixed in his reaction. “As an activist, I feel disappointed, as an elected official I salute this choice of responsibility and as a Frenchman I feel a lot of hope for my country and 2027 with this statement from a statesman. Proud to belong to its regional executive”he wrote on social networks.
Laurent Wauquiez indeed explained in his long message that the right had to build an alternative in front of “going beyond questions of equipment, working with personalities with different backgrounds, rubbing your brains with all those who want to get this start, wherever they come from. You have to look for new ideas, have the time to to prepare”.
