My generation has fallen into a seriousness we were not prepared for.

My generation grew up in the wake of the fall of the wall. We were perhaps the most naive, gullible, and optimistic generation of youth ever.

Western liberal ideas had triumphed once and for all. World War II and the destruction of the continent we were born into was something we felt a vague physical connection to through the stories of our grandparents. But the battlefields and concentration camps were still something infinitely distant for us – something that had happened in black and white in a barbaric time.
