The first three place winners of each race and the six fastest results will qualify for the semi-finals.
Vaichule’s best result of the season is 51.93 seconds, which gives him 96th place in the list of the best in the world and 62nd place in the world ranking, while his personal record is 51.37 seconds.
Merileidija Paulinho, who won a gold medal in the 4×400 meter mixed relay on Friday as part of the Dominican Republic, will also compete in the same race with the Latvian. She is the leader in this distance.
Vaičule has participated in two world championships. In 2015, she finished in 52.19 seconds and took 30th place, but two years later, finishing in the semi-finals in 51.57 seconds, she was in 12th position. Before that, she broke her personal record in the preliminaries.
Latvia will be represented at the world championship by javelin throwers Līna Mūze, Madara Palameika, Patriks Gailums and Rolands Štrobinders, 400 meter runner Gunta Vaičule and walker Arnis Rumbenieks.
Coaches Gints Palameiks, Mārcis Štrobinders, Sigismunds Sirmais and Edvīns Krūms also went to the championship together with the athletes.
The World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, Oregon will take place until July 24.
