Indiana authorities are investigating a gynecologist who performed an abortion on a 10-year-old girl who had been raped, accusing him of failing to report the case, a critical development in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s decision to revoke the federal right to terminate a pregnancy.
Dr. Caitlin Bernard told several media outlets in early July that she received the girl in Indianapolis after being contacted by a colleague from Ohio.
In this northern state, neighboring Indiana, the decision of the Supreme Court, on June 24, to no longer guarantee the right to interrupt a pregnancy, allowed the entry into force of a law that prohibits abortion from six weeks of pregnancy.

The girl, who was raped in May by an irregular Guatemalan migrant arrested on Tuesday, she had missed the deadline and had to go to Indiana, where abortions remain legal until 21 weeks of pregnancy.
But state officials, mostly Republicans, oppose abortion rights and are considering banning it.
Meanwhile, the state attorney general lashed out at Dr. Bernard on Wednesday night, accusing him of failing to report the girl’s case to the authorities, as required by local pedophile law.
“We have this pro-choice activist acting as a doctor with a history of not reporting” cases where reporting is required, Rokita told Fox News.

Biden defended the girl’s right to abortion
Democratic President Joe Biden cited this tragic case on Friday to denounce the Supreme Court ruling.
Ten years! Raped, six weeks pregnant, traumatized, and now forced to move to another state!
Until the suspect’s arrest, the conservative press and several Ohio officials questioned whether it was true.
Now, opponents of abortion accuse the defenders of this right of “using” the girl to promote their cause and blame their misfortunes on Joe Biden’s immigration policy, because the aggressor is an irregular Guatemalan immigrant.
