It looks like any summer evening. The sun hangs low, the sky turns orange. Then it slams.

If you see a long, gentle cloud of smoke stretching across the sky in Norway, it usually means that a plane has passed. In Ukraine, the white soft cloud of smoke means very bad news.

All normal air traffic in and out of the country stopped when Russia invaded on 24 February. If you see a gentle cloud of smoke over the Ukrainian sky these days, it is definitely not a plane.
