The Czech Republic will test digital radio broadcasting from analog transmitters

Test broadcasts in the DRM standard will also verify parameter settings, day and night coverage, usable network capacity or resistance to interference. Radiokomunikace tested DRM back in 2003. Currently, they use the DAB+ standard for digital broadcasting, with which they have covered over 95 percent of the Czech Republic for Czech Radio.

DRM, i.e. Digital Radio Mondiale, is a standard that was created as a digital replacement for analog radio broadcasting on long, medium and short waves. Its advantage is the coverage of a larger area from a single transmitter than with analog transmission, and the associated higher energy efficiency. It also does not require any new frequencies, the existing frequencies on which analog broadcasting was operated are digitized.

Czech Radio stopped analogue broadcasting on long and medium waves at the end of last year.

The transmitter in České Budějovice enables conversion to digital broadcasting. Through digital broadcasting in the DRM standard, the radio station CRo Radiožurnál will broadcast.

In addition to operating its own network of television and radio transmitters, České Radiokomunikace focuses on connecting the worlds of television, radio and the Internet. They also operate their own data centers and optical backbone network.
