Japan Wants to Create Artificial Gravity on the Moon to be Similar to Earth

Jakarta

Did you know, gravity in Moon and Mars about 16.5% and 37.9% on Earth, respectively. Nah, Lunar Glass and Mars Glass can bridge that gap. It is a spacecraft specially designed for artificial gravity on the Moon and Mars to be similar to that on Earth.

Scientists at Kyoto University and Kajima Corporation have proposed designs for Lunar Glass and Mars Glass, spacecraft shaped like a rotating cone. The probe will use centrifugal force to simulate the effects of Earth’s gravity.

This rotating cone will have an approximate radius of 100 meters and a height of 400 meters, and will complete one turn every 20 seconds. Each spin will create a 1g experience for those within it (1g is gravity on Earth).

As quoted from Gizmodo, the researchers target the latter half of the 21st century for the construction of Lunar Glass. This target seems too optimistic, considering that its manufacture requires high skill and technology.

The second element of the plan is a “core biome complex” to relocate dwindling ecosystems into space. The core biome complex will be inside the Lunar Glass or Mars Glass structure and that’s where human explorers will live.

The final element of the proposal is the “Hexagon Space Track” or Hexatrack, a high-speed transport infrastructure that can link Earth, Marsday Moon.

Hexatrack would need at least three different stations, one on Mars’ moon Phobos, one in Earth orbit, and one around the Moon. Now, the return trip to the Moon is getting closer and closer, and interest in living on Mars is growing.

The main obstacle in the way of long-term stay in these places is gravity. The proposals from Kyoto University and the Kajima Corporation are exciting and promising, but this technology doesn’t seem like something that will materialize any time soon.
