Ondrej Palat joins the Devils for the next five seasons

NEWARK, NJ — Winger Ondrej Palat signed a five-year, $6 million-a-year contract with the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Palat, an important part of the Tampa Bay Lightning during their two Stanley Cup conquests in 2020 and 2021, had 18 goals and 31 assists (49 points) in 77 games last season.

The former Drummondville Voltigeurs also played in the Stanley Cup final last season.

The Lightning’s seventh-round pick in 2011, he had 143 goals and 280 assists (423 points) in 628 NHL games.

The 31-year-old Czech will be on his second training on the Bettman circuit.

Wednesday, when the free agent market opened, the Devils made a trade. They acquired forward Erik Haula from the Boston Bruins in exchange for winger Pavel Zacha.
