Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The plan for the initial public offering of a company owned by a tycoon from South Kalimantan, Samsudin Andi Arsyad alias Haji Isam, has attracted public attention. Jhony Saputra, Haji Isam’s 21-year-old son, serves as the President Commissioner of PT Jhonlin Agro Raya Tbk (JARR) which will conduct an IPO at the end of this month.
The position of president commissioner is generally reserved specifically for business owners or confidants of parties who represent the majority of shareholders’ interests. The main commissioner who has duties related to supervision is usually also filled by professionals with long experience in the business as an extension of the shareholders.
Jhony, who graduated from high school at Al Azhar High School, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta in 2018, also holds strategic positions in various other companies in Haji Isam’s Jhonlin Group.

Jhony, who graduated from high school at Al Azhar High School, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta in 2018, also holds strategic positions at various other companies in Haji Isam’s Jhonlin Group.
The name Jhonlin itself was inspired by the abbreviation of the merger of two names of Haji Isam’s children, namely Jhony and Liana. This was confirmed by Haji Isam’s son by uploading it on his personal Instagram which answered questions related to the choice of the word Jhonlin. In the upload, Liana said that “the answer is simple, just my brother and I (JhoniLiana).”
Before Jhony there was Liana
If the JARR offer is successful, Jhony may become the youngest president commissioner in a public company. However, two years before Jhony, his older sister first filled the prestigious position in another public company connected to Haji Isam’s family.
In 2020 ago, Gunatama Pradiction (PGUN), which is engaged in oil palm plantations and the palm oil and palm kernel oil industry, made an initial offering and was able to raise Rp 103.50 billion in public funds.
The name Haji Isam did not appear in this company, but was controlled by his two children. The IPO prospectus stated that the controller of the company is Liana Saputri, who is the older brother of Jhony Saputra. Before the IPO, the brothers controlled PGUN indirectly by 50% each.
Ahead of the IPO in 2020, Liana is known to be 22 years old, one year older than Jhony’s current age and has the latest educational background in Business Management and Leadership from Santa Monica College, Los Angeles 2018.
Even though he has the same share ownership as Liana, Jhony, who was 19 years old at PGUN’s IPO, did not become a manager in the palm oil company. Operations and business management are managed by Liana who serves as the company’s main commissioner. After being absent from a strategic position, now Jhony appears at JARR, where Liana’s name is absent from the ranks of the highest top leaders.
